Aronia: the black fruit chokeberry

The black chokeberry is a small shrub that offers attractive, edible berries from summer to winter.

Pruning, maintenance of chokeberry

At the end of winter, cut back the old branches about 1/3, ventilate the center and maintain a goblet shape.

Finally, remove dead and fragile branches.

In the spring, add somefruit tree fertilizer in order to stimulate fruiting.

Chokeberry is grown primarily in Canada and North America where it is popularly cultivated to use this fruit in juice, jams and jellies.

It has also often been incorporated into wines, liqueurs and syrup, both for its taste close to blackcurrant and for its colorability.
